Dragon Boat
At the VCS office, June is heralded by a succession of noises; the splash of oars, the beat of drums and the occasional shriek of a rower being thrown into the water. These are the sounds of the annual Weston Park Charity Dragon Boat Regatta and for the 5th consecutive year team Dunk n’ Disorderly took to the water at Rother Valley Country Park.
Despite a valiant effort from all the rowers Dunk ‘n Disorderly came 11th out of 16, a slight dip on last year’s performance. Still, with only half a second separating us from the 8th placed team it was a close run thing and everyone can be proud of their performance.
Of course, the most important element of the day isn’t the rowing, the sunshine or even the barbecue. Weston Park Hospital is one of only three dedicated cancer hospitals in the UK and the charity that bears its name does incredible work in ensuring that the hospital remains at the forefront of cancer research.
We are extremely proud to be able to support the charity and with sponsorship money still being collected the event as a whole is well on its way to surpassing last year’s total of £15,000.
